Lipidomics

What is it?

The IRBLleida Lipidomics Service was established in 2022 as the Catalonia Lipidomics Platform (PLICAT), in collaboration with the University of Lleida, Gestió de Serveis Sanitaris (GSS), and Agrotecnio. PLICAT is an innovative research infrastructure committed to scientific excellence, providing advanced analytical support to the biomedical research community.

The platform offers lipidomics and global metabolomics services, delivering high-value analytical solutions to researchers. Its activities focus on providing state-of-the-art methodologies, expert scientific advice, and technical expertise to support both basic and clinical research; developing innovative analytical methods and technologies to ensure the platform remains at the forefront of the field; and promoting training and the dissemination of lipidomics and metabolomics technologies at both regional and international levels.

The consolidation as a shared scientific and technological platform was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya in the call with reference BDNS 439727, code IU16-015805.

What equipment is available?

 The platform is equipped with cutting-edge analytical instrumentation that enables selective, highly sensitive and accurate characterization of complex biological samples. It includes:

• 2 liquid chromatography- high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) systems:
  • Agilent 6545 Q-TOF mass spectrometer coupled to an Agilent 1290 UHPLC system with electrospray ionization (ESI).
  • Thermo Fisher Orbitrap Exploris™ 240 mass spectrometer coupled to a Vanquish UHPLC system with electrospray ionization (ESI)

• 3 triple quadrupole liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) systems:
  • Agilent 6495 Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometer coupled to an Agilent 1290 UHPLC system with electrospray ionization (ESI).
  • Agilent 6420 Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometer coupled to an Agilent 1290 UHPLC system with electrospray ionization (ESI).
  • Agilent Ultivo Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometer coupled to an Agilent 1290 UHPLC system with electrospray ionization (ESI).

• 1 gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) systems:
  • Agilent Intuvo 9000 Gas Chromatography (GC) system equipped with a 7693A Automatic Liquid Sampler and a 5977B Mass Selective Detector (MSD).
• 1 gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) system:
  • Agilent 7890A Gas Chromatography (GC) system equipped with a 7683B Automatic Liquid Sampler.
